The owner of this Tecnam P2002-JF was one of the first to see the potential in the Tecnam brand in Europe. He took the rights to sell the aircraft in Ireland, and many schools and individuals went on to enjoy these aircraft. Coming from a microlight background, he wanted the fuel burn he was used to, but in a factory-built fully supported aircraft that wasn’t on a permit to fly, and could be based anywhere in Europe. The merit of these considerations stands the test of time.
D-ETRE is a one-owner 2004 aircraft with just 1,049 hours since new, serial number 003 off the line. At the last inspection a slight delamination was noted in the original propeller, so a new Hoffmann fixed-pitch unit was fitted. The ARC is valid until 22nd December 2025, and the 100hr/annual is due 27th January 2026. Power is provided by the liquid-cooled Rotax 912S2 delivering 100hp, giving a cruise speed of 105–115 KTAS depending on weight and power setting, with an economical 17 L/hr fuel burn from the 100 L tanks. The aircraft is approved for EN228 unleaded, UL91/94, and 100LL avgas, giving genuine flexibility on extended European VFR tours.
The cockpit remains in excellent condition, with a 43-inch-wide cabin — wider than a Bonanza or an Arrow — offering superb space and 360° visibility through its sliding canopy. The canopy also incorporates rollover protection tested by inverted drop tests, while the triple-latch closure adds security in busy circuits. Cream leather seats with four-point harnesses, cream sidewalls, and a quilted baggage bay (44 lb capacity) create a refined environment. Adjustable seats and efficient ventilation, heating, and soundproofing enhance comfort. Panel equipment includes a Skymap IIIc, Icom IC-A220 8.33 kHz COM, Garmin GTX330 Mode S transponder, and a Kannad 406 ELT.
This P2002-JF is renowned for its crisp handling and short-field performance, thanks to its tapered laminar wing with slotted flaps — stall speed is just 41 kt in landing configuration, and landing distances are under 200 m with take-off over a 50 ft obstacle at less than 400 m. The spring-steel main gear and trailing-link steerable nose gear are rugged and maintenance-free, well proven in training duties.
Other design features include a steel-tube cabin frame with aluminum skin, detachable wing leading edges for ease of inspection, and quick-access gull-wing engine doors for fast pre-flight checks. Forward visibility is exceptional thanks to the low-mounted engine and sloping cowling. An external power socket allows avionics operation or engine start without drawing the main battery.
With a practical ceiling of 14,000 ft, range of 568 NM, and a climb rate up to 950 ft/min, this aircraft offers real cross-country capability alongside its reputation as an engaging, economical trainer. Certified to EASA CS-VLA and validated in multiple countries, it’s equally at home in flying schools, private hangars, or on grass strips across Europe.
In summary, D-ETRE represents an early, well-kept example of the Tecnam P2002-JF, blending rugged simplicity with refined ergonomics. It remains one of the most efficient and versatile two-seat tourers and trainers available — a compelling opportunity for pilots seeking dependable European-built quality with a modern support network.
