The G2 takes all the ground breaking features of the original G1 SR22 like airframe parachute system (CAPS), Single Movement Power Lever (SIMPLE), TKS-based Ice Protection and incorporates a number of significant improvements. The interior, doors, oil filler door, cowling, propeller, engine mount, access panel for repack/maintenance, air intake are all different and improved. The G2 is of course also 4-5kts faster. Numerous improvements came after serial number 1663, and the later aircraft are known as the “Glovebox” models. All in all, there are over 22 key improvements with these over the early G1 models, which mean this serial number range is the sweet spot as a value proposition for an owner stepping up to a Cirrus.
The business end of the SR22 is a work of art from the polished spinner enclosing the Hartzell 3-Blade propeller paired with the IO-550-N engine looking every inch it’s 310hp, it’s the dream set up for those in the know. Running on Philips XC 20W50 the engine is smooth, strong and runs cool either ROP or LOP which is easily dialed in using the lean assist feature on the Avidyne MFD.
